Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: The overarching UK legislation making it a legal requirement for business owners and landlords to conduct a fire risk assessment and provide appropriate firefighting equipment.
Fire extinguisher service is required once a year (or more if in a high risk area) and must follow the procedures in British Standard 5306 Part 3 (currently BS 5306-3:2017) along with any manufacturer's instructions.
Fire Extinguisher Classes
Class A: Solid materials like wood, paper, and textiles (water, foam, powder).
Class B: Flammable liquids like petrol, paint, or diesel (foam, powder, CO2).
Class C: Flammable gases like propane or methane (powder).
Class D: Flammable metals (specialized dry powder).
Class F: Cooking oils and fats (wet chemical).
Electrical: Equipment involving live electrical sources (CO2 or dry powder)
